Watch Out for Scammers Who've Lost Their Way to the Fair
3rd Precinct police today warned residents that new scams occur almost every day and to be on the look out for unusual behaviors and "stories" told by persons who knock on your door or greet you while you're working in your yard.
This week there have been two similar cases reported in 3rd Precinct in which a suspect has knocked on the victim's door asking for directions. In one case near East 61st Street and 3rd Avenue, the suspect stated she was from Mora, MN and was trying to get to the state fair and got lost. The suspect was allowed into the home and the victim and her friend showed the suspect directions on their computer. The suspect asked to use the home's lavatory and was allowed to. The suspect left. A short time later, the victim noticed a ring which had been in the vanity was missing.
The victim described the suspect as a black female, 29-30 years old, 5'4", light build, medium complexion, with long black hair. She was wearing a strapless blue-flowered dress.
If this person or anyone else comes to your home with a similar story, CAll 911 IMMEDIATELY so that officers can look for them and ID them.
